    About the manufacturer

    Gerard Philips (1858-1942) founded his own light bulb factory in Eindhoven, Netherlands in 1891 after being impressed by Thomas Edison's demonstrations. The company grew quickly and became Europe's largest carbon fiber manufacturer. In 1912, Philips signed a historic contract with Tsar Nicholas I and became an export-oriented company in 1914. In 1925, designer Louis Kalff joined the company and designed some iconic products. In the 1990s, Philips collaborated with Alessi to develop a colorful household collection. Today the company has a team of 500 designers and focuses on experiences and digital technologies.
