A house that gives space to creativity

Rick Owens' home is a place where he can live out his creativity. It is located opposite his factory building, where he creates his collections. He lives in this space with few things, but they are very important to him. "I don't want to live in this space with a lot of things. I'm not very acquisitive, but the things I live with are very important to me," he explains.

Minimalist design with a connection to art

Some of the special pieces that Owens presents in his home are sculptures. The George Minne sculpture "Kneeling Youth" is an example of this. Owens describes it as "introverted, melancholic, but also vaguely spiritual". Owens also emphasizes how important the connection between art and design is to him: "The clothes I make are like a kind of sculpture."

Use of materials from decades past

Owens uses a variety of materials in his home to create a unique atmosphere. One of the most notable choices is his use of army blankets, inspired by Joseph Beuys. "I always insulate my rooms with army blankets," he says. "It's a symbol that creates protection and isolation." He also uses a lot of travertine, a material he describes as "classic clay". "I like to put myself in that zone," he explains.

Owenscorp Bar: community and design

Owenscorp Bar is a communal space opposite Owens' factory building. Here, Owens' team members and the community can grab a bite to eat and a drink. "It's a place where you can relax and have something to eat or drink," says Owens. The space is furnished with furniture from Owens' own collection, including a mural by Owens' daughter Scarlet Rouge.

A place to unite the past and the future

Owens' living space is an example of how to connect the past and the future. He displays objects from his Homeware collection as well as relics from previous interior works. "I love combining the past and the future," he says. "I think this creates a retro-futuristic aesthetic that I have developed over the years."

A house as a creative oasis

Owens' home in Italy is a place that allows him to live out his creativity. With little decoration and a minimalist aesthetic, he creates a space that is both spiritual and relaxing. "I like to go into a space where I can work without anything disturbing me," he says. "That's very important to me."

A reminder of the transience of life

Owens' house also contains some unusual objects that reflect his personality. A skull sculpture serves as a reminder of the transience of life. "I use it as a 'memento mori' to remind me that everything is fleeting," says Owens. A collection of pistols reminds him of his father, who had a difficult relationship with him. "They are now a loving reminder of him," says Owens.

Onagadori Rooster feathers as a symbol of unlimited possibilities

One of the most fascinating collections in Owens' home are Onagadori Rooster feathers. "I've always dreamed of collecting these feathers," he says. These Japanese chickens were originally bred in the 17th century, and their feathers are particularly beautiful and unusually long. "They remind me that anything is possible," says Owens.

An aesthetic of extravagance and drama

Everything in Owens' home seems to be geared towards his aesthetic of extravagance and drama. From the army blankets to the unusual artwork and objects, every item seems to have been carefully chosen to create a unique atmosphere. "I like to have things that have a certain pop," he says. "I think it's about creating extravagance and drama when you choose decorations."

The beauty of simplicity: A final look at the home of Rick Owens

Rick Owens' home is not just a place to live, but also a place of creation and inspiration. His love of reduction and minimalism, coupled with the extravagance and drama of his aesthetic, make this space something unique. Owens' use of unusual materials and objects that represent memories of his past and personality emphasizes the connection between art and design, making the interior a true work of art.
