Marcel Breuer and Carlo Scarpa inspire Marsèll's new flagship store in Milan

In the heart of Milan's fashionable "Quadrilatero della Moda", Marsèll, a renowned Italian brand for high-quality shoes and accessories, has recently opened its first flagship store. The store at Via della Spiga 42 is a prime example of Italian craftsmanship and design.
In close collaboration with the Berlin design studio Lotto Studio, a space was created within eight months that ideally showcases the identity and offerings of Marsèll in an open, modern, and dignified atmosphere.
About the Concept
The design concept of the project aimed to create a unique space where the modular environments, inspired by the strict architecture of Marcel Breuer, a main representative of the Bauhaus movement, meet the contemplative atmospheres of Carlo Scarpa, one of the most significant designers and architects of the 20th century.
Marco Cima, creative director and founder of Marsèll, describes the store as an embodiment of the Marsèll house, "a place where everything that makes Marsèll comes together in a perfect whole." Spanning 400 square meters over two levels, visitors are introduced to the world of Marsèll. The ground floor presents the men's and women's collection, complemented by a gallery space for collaborations and site-specific art projects. The basement serves as a multifunctional space for the Marsèll Gomme collection and as a forum for events of all kinds.
An architectural highlight is the generous staircase with a beech wood bookshelf, conceived as a work of art, connecting the floors. The ability to divide the space modularly using a flexible curtain system reflects the dynamic and constantly changing nature of the brand.
The interior design of the store is characterized by a contrast of materials and elements. Travertine and walnut wood define the areas for men and women, while stainless steel, glass, and leather harmonize with the colors and textures of Marsèll. Walls made of a special cement-pebble mix create a flexible and contemporary interior environment, ideal for showcasing artists and creative works.
The design of the store reflects the forms and surfaces of Marsèll and represents a careful balance of elements to create a timeless space that corresponds with the 20 years of history and overall philosophy of the brand and its products.
"This is a significant moment," adds Marco Cima. "For the first time, we are entering into direct dialogue with people interested in our work." Since its founding in 2001 near Venice, Marsèll has established itself as more than just a brand – it is an ongoing project that explores new forms of expression by mixing modernity with tradition and constantly trying out new, innovative production techniques.
Marsèll is represented worldwide in about 200 stores, with 35% in Europe, 25% in North America, and 40% in other parts of the world, and continues its journey of constant reinvention and development.
