    About the manufacturer

Gerard Philips (1858-1942) founded his own light bulb factory in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1891 after being impressed by Thomas Edison's demonstrations. The company grew rapidly and became Europe's largest carbon filament manufacturer. In 1912, Philips signed a historic contract with Tsar Nicholas I and became an export-oriented company in 1914. In 1925, designer Louis Kalff joined the company and designed some iconic products. In the 1990s, Philips collaborated with Alessi to develop a colorful household collection. Today, the company has a team of 500 designers and focuses on experience and digital technologies.
