Creating a stylish space: Mark's journey into interior design

Mark's passion for creative expression and style has always been an integral part of his life. It was only natural that this spilled over into his living space. He explains: "I've always been creative and had a strong sense of style - it extends to pretty much every aspect of my life." For him, styling his living space was not much different to putting together a fashionable outfit. He emphasizes the importance of cohesion in his interior design, saying, "I choose pieces that hold together through materials, textures, etc. and create a unified image."

The corona lockdown period has further reinforced the importance of a comfortable space. Mark emphasizes that it's not just about surviving a lockdown, but also about feeling comfortable in your surroundings. He says: "Lockdown has definitely emphasized the importance of creating a space where you can feel comfortable." Although not confined to his home, Mark prides himself on curating his surroundings. He adds: "But I spend so much time here, even outside of lockdown, that I have a certain curation and pride in my surroundings." For Mark, interior design is not just about aesthetics, but also about creating a space that reflects his personality and makes him comfortable.

The connection of creativity: How Mark's interests influence interior design

Mark's love of creative expression goes beyond interior design. He reveals, "I'm just really interested in different types of creative expression. I started drawing comics and cartoons early on, then it evolved into graphic design and then an interest in fashion ... I consume everything from anime to music, art, design and style (by that I mean beyond 'fashion') and much more." His diverse interests and experiences have influenced his approach to interior design.

Mark believes that a sense of style is crucial to making any space look good. He says: "But the final point is how I designed my space - you can make anything look good if you have a sense of style." For him, interior design is about creating a cohesive space that reflects his personality and sense of style. He has mastered the art of decorating on a budget and reveals that 80% of his furniture comes from Marketplace. He advises, "You don't have to throw out a lot of money, you just have to know what you're looking for."

Mark's love for different forms of creative expression and his ability to curate on a small budget has allowed him to create a space that is uniquely his own.

Mark's favorite elements of interior design: harmony, value and style

Mark's interior design is a reflection of his personality and sense of style. When asked about his favorite elements in his space, he finds it hard to pick just three. He says: "It's hard to choose just three. Everything in my space has a purpose." Nevertheless, he reveals some of his most treasured pieces.

The first piece he loves is his Le Corbusier LC5 sofa. He found it on Marketplace and was able to get it for an incredible price. He says: "I found it on Marketplace, and the person selling it had no idea of its value, so I got it for an insanely good price." For Mark, value and aesthetics go hand in hand.

The second piece he loves is his Korban Flaubert stainless steel side table. It's a piece he acquired from an office that wanted to dispose of it. He says: "An office I used to work in wanted to throw it away, so I quickly picked it up." The table's unique design has earned him many messages and comments on Instagram asking where he got it.

Finally, Mark's love of harmony is evident in his search for "chrome furniture" on Marketplace. He looks for Bauhaus-inspired pieces that complement his style. He describes his furnishings as "lots of chrome, stainless steel and black leather." He adds, "I'm super particular, but everything in each room works together." For Mark, cohesion is the key to creating a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Mark's favorite furniture designers: Timeless elegance with USM Haller and Byron Botker

Mark's love of interior design is not limited to the design of his room. He also has a good eye for furniture designers. When asked about his favorite furniture designer, he says: "USM Haller. USM is timeless and minimalist." He appreciates the simplicity and elegance of USM Haller's designs.

Mark also revealed that he recently purchased a piece from Byron Botker and is thrilled with his designs. He comments: "I recently purchased a piece from Byron Botker and am very impressed with his exceptional designs - he definitely comes a close second." The uniqueness and creativity of Botker's designs have fascinated Mark.

Mark's "interior design grail" is also linked to his favorite furniture designers. He says: "Very similar to the previous answer, anything from USM Haller or the Byron Botker Landes sofa." For him, these pieces epitomize timeless elegance and creative design. For Mark, interior design is not just about creating a space that looks good, but also about finding and appreciating the artistry and craftsmanship behind each piece of furniture.
