Skateboards as a tribute to Charles and Ray Eames: Globe's latest collection

by @industrialkonzept Team

In a remarkable fusion of design history and modern skate culture, Globe presents a skateboard series that is a tribute to the legendary Eames Office Lounge Chairs and Ottomans by Charles and Ray Eames. The finish and material - walnut, black oak, ash and maple - reflect the original pieces of furniture. Every detail of the Skateboards, from the color transitions to the materials, honors the Eames' heritage and design principles.

The Globe lounge collection transforms Charles and Ray Eames lounge chairs into skateboards

The collection comprises three limited editions: A 30-inch cruiser made of white ash wood, a 32-inch cruiser made of walnut wood and a 38-inch longboard made of black oak. These skateboards are not only a means of transportation, but also a tribute to the innovative spirit of the Eames and their iconic 20th century furniture design. The Eames Office Lounge Collection Skateboards from Globe could almost be perceived as part of the famous Lounge Chairs, so apt is their replica.

The fusion of two worlds

The collaboration between Globe and the Eames Office aims to unite furniture design and skateboarding. The meticulous craftsmanship of the skateboards is evident in details such as the lacquer dip and laser etch finish on the wood veneer, which perfectly mimic the lounge chairs and ottoman. Small details such as embedded metal badges and logo screws emphasize the collaboration. The Eames Office logo is laser-engraved on the underside of the skateboards.

La Chaise"-Box-Set

In addition to the three skateboards, Globe is also releasing a limited edition box set that commemorates the development of "La Chaise" for MoMA's 1948 Low-Cost Furniture Competition. It contains five decks that are mounted on the wall to create an abstract image of "La Chaise". This unique set is limited to 100 pieces worldwide and is mainly available in the MoMA Design Store.

About the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman

Recognized as design wonders of the 20th century, the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman represent a revolutionary design in the furniture world. This pair, characterized by its curved shapes and use of shaped wood, changed the perception of living room aesthetics. The innovative techniques used in their manufacture, such as the skillful use of multi-layered, shaped plywood combined with fine veneers, created a visual and functional harmony. They reinterpret the traditional English club chair and are characterized by their reversible and removable cushions. These timeless pieces are not only furniture, but also symbolize the perpetuation of quality and design that will last for generations.

A new look at a classic design

With this second series of Eames-inspired skateboards, Globe brings the famous furniture design back to the present, appealing to today's generation as well as skateboard enthusiasts. Each skateboard comes in a sturdy canvas bag that converts into a carry bag. While the Eames Lounge 32-inch cruiser is already sold out, the other models, including the Eames La Chaise box set, are still available.
