THE RELIQUARY Introduces a Debut Collection That Bridges Gothic Architecture and Modern Design

by @industrialkonzept Team

Los Angeles-based workshop THE RELIQUARY is making its mark on the design world with a debut collection that melds the intricate artistry of high Gothic architecture with contemporary aesthetics. Rejecting the impersonal nature of mass production, the studio focuses on limited, made-to-order pieces crafted by master artisans from Northern and Southern California.

At the heart of the collection are two standout pieces: the Arch Bookcases and the Tracery Wall Lamp.

The collection shot in a beautifully preserved historical location from the 1920’s in Downtown Los Angeles, that once functioned as the headquarters of a bank. Shot by Ron Mey Studio.

The Arch Bookcases are constructed from quarter-inch aluminum sheets, showcasing an industrial robustness softened by a hand-brushed finish. This meticulous process introduces subtle variations on the surface, highlighting the touch of the craftsman and ensuring each piece is unique. The arches evoke the grandeur of medieval cloisters, bringing a sense of historical depth to modern interiors. Available in two sizes, these bookcases offer both functionality and a sculptural presence, and can be customized in size and finish upon request.

Complementing the bookcases is the Tracery Wall Lamp, a piece that draws inspiration from the ornate rose windows that have adorned cathedrals for centuries. Carved from solid Calacatta Borghini marble—a stone celebrated for its milky base and swirling gray and gold veins—the lamp embodies both luxury and timeless beauty. The marble is chiseled by a master carver, a nod to traditional stone-working techniques. Modern elements come into play with concealed LED components and stainless steel mounting hardware, blending old-world craftsmanship with contemporary technology.

THE RELIQUARY’s approach is a deliberate departure from the fast-paced, disposable culture often seen in today’s design industry. By embracing historical influences and traditional methods, the studio creates pieces that are not only visually striking but also rich in narrative and authenticity. Each item serves as a conversation between past and present, inviting reflection on the craftsmanship and artistry that transcend time.

The debut collection positions THE RELIQUARY as a fresh voice in the design community, one that values heritage and individuality over mass appeal. Their work resonates with those who appreciate the fusion of art, history, and modern living spaces.
