Salt - Shaker

Something between a totem and a monolith: SALT stands on the dining table. Seamless and porous, it calls to mind a perfect piece of moon rock.

Add a touch of mystery and primordial, galactic drama to the dining table: Pick up the satisfyingly heavy salt shaker and shake it over your meal, watch as the fine grain salt seems to just emit from the top surface, finding its own way out of the labyrinthine structure.

Fundamental Berlin created this unique piece of tableware using a technique they discovered in Russia. By incorporating rock salt into the aluminum casting process, they achieved a food-safe aggregate that withstands aluminum’s high melting point of 660°C. Once cast, the salt is easily washed away with water, leaving behind striking, moon-rock-like voids. These voids serve a practical purpose, allowing fine table salt to flow through, adding a functional yet mysterious design element to their tableware.
