In 1909, a stool changed how the world thought about seating. The Rowac Schemel, the world's first seating furniture made of riveted steel plate, was built for purpose: durable, functional, and honest in its construction. Factories adopted it. Schools chose it. The Bauhaus made it their own. Over a century later, that same clarity of form endures.

The Just steel edition brings the Rowac Schemel back to its rawest expression, now also available in bar height with a steel seat top. Where the original paired stamped steel legs with a wooden seat, this edition goes further, reducing the stool to sheer steel and puristic form, a fitting tribute to the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus Dessau. Ready for any weather, built for any space.

Rowac was founded by Karl Robert Wagner in early 20th century Chemnitz, and the Schemel quickly became the archetype of the modern workshop stool. Production halted after World War II, but in 2023 the stool was revived, handcrafted true to the original in the Ore Mountains of Germany. Over 100 years on, the same principles apply: functional, durable, and honest.
