The History behind STOFF Nagel
STOFF Nagel is a Danish design brand, founded in 2015, known for its revival of the iconic STOFF Nagel candle holder. This timeless piece was originally conceived in the 1960s when Hans Nagel, during a skiing trip in the Alps, had an accidental fall. As he steadied himself, his hand left three perfect holes in the snow, sparking an idea. He imagined a sculptural candle holder with space for three slim candles, capturing the elegance and simplicity of that moment. Nagel approached designer Werner Stoff to bring this vision to life, marking the beginning of a creative partnership.
The STOFF Nagel candle holder launched in the late 1960s, during a time when design was influencing all aspects of society. The piece became more than just a functional object—it was an artistic statement, a symbol of modernism and individual expression. With its sleek, three-legged form and moon-like design, the candle holder quickly gained international recognition and solidified the Nagel family's reputation in the design world.
Though the candle holder was unavailable for years, Danish company STOFF Copenhagen reintroduced it to the world, honoring Werner Stoff's original drawings. Today, the STOFF Nagel collection includes not only the iconic candle holder but also vases, bowls, stands, and exclusive candles, continuing to inspire design lovers around the globe.
