Stone surveys architecture in the oldest of building materials, from prehistory to the present. More than 170 structures appear, from Neolithic monuments and the Pyramids of Giza to twentieth-century works such as Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion and Marcel Breuer's Met building in New York, and recent projects including Snøhetta's Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, Kengo Kuma's Chokkura Plaza in Japan and David Chipperfield's Museo Jumex in Mexico City.
The projects are arranged to invite comparison, each with an extended caption commenting on the building. By William Hall, with a text by Penelope Curtis, this mini format hardback in the Phaidon Minis series measures 163 x 123 mm and runs to 376 pages.
