Yves Saint Laurent: Accessories is the first book devoted to the accessories the couturier designed, from his first collection in 1962 to his final presentation in 2002: jewellery, hats, shoes and handbags made to complete each couture look. Saint Laurent himself said in 1977 that he liked dresses to be sober and accessories to be wild.
Written by Patrick Mauriès, the book draws on the archives of the Yves Saint Laurent Foundation in Paris, which hold more than 20,000 accessories. Specially commissioned photographs of the pieces sit alongside preparatory sketches, portraits of Saint Laurent at work, backstage pictures of models, catwalk images and advertising campaigns. The compact format, 246 x 189 mm with 432 pages, recalls a jewellery box.
