The Aluminium Shelf System – as a Console
This console, featuring sliding doors and a drawer, is a refined composition within the iconic Aluminium Shelving System by Andreas Christen. First developed for the 1964 Swiss National Exhibition and brought into production by Lehni in 1970, the system is now regarded as a milestone of Swiss modernism.
What may seem like a standalone piece is, in fact, an expression of the system’s modular intelligence. Built from lightweight yet robust bent aluminium sheets and stabilized with a signature cross-brace, the console carries the same DNA as the full shelving configurations.
Lightweight, tool-free to dismantle, and endlessly adaptable, the system allows for countless configurations—from full shelving walls to discreet furniture pieces like this. Designed for flexibility, it can be expanded with drawers, doors, wardrobe rails, and more—making even the smallest version, like this bedside table, part of something much larger.
This specific configuration includes two sliding doors (25cm height) and a drawer (15cm height). Different configurations and colours on request.
