Tock Table

Solid oak top, recycled sand-cast aluminum base. Six adjustable feet keep Tock steady on any surface.

A round table by Anna Kraitz that sets a stage. Cups appear, glasses gather, notebooks open, cards get dealt. Alone or in company, Tock waits for life to arrive. The circular shape is no accident: it draws people close, face to face rather than side by side.

The oak top is reinforced with steel bars for lasting integrity. The brushed aluminum base catches light like a hazy mirror and doubles as a resting place for a dog or a cat. Its knurled insert, reminiscent of industrial cogwheels, is as much ornament as function.

"Tock is a reminder of a café or bistro in Paris, or anywhere in central and southern Europe," says Anna Kraitz, "and also of Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times, where the opposition between man and machine turns into an aesthetic."

At home, in a café, a restaurant, a hotel lobby. Indoors or out. A rectangular version is available on request.

Anna Kraitz is among the most significant contemporary designers in Sweden, working at the intersection of art and design. She graduated from Beckmans College of Design in 1999 and has since worked as a furniture and product designer while running her own label.
