Century of forms
Design from Art Nouveau to Minimalism ... and everything in between
More or less safely arrived in the 21st century, we finally see clearly: the 20th century was firmly in the hands of designers. Aesthetics took possession of everyday life and transformed our homes and offices into galleries of ever-changing style fashions in which progress showed its frivolous side.
TASCHEN brings together the entire spectrum of design - from furniture to graphic design, from the organic to the geometric, from art deco to pop to high-tech. All the designers who put the finishing touches to civilization and helped create our modern world are represented - from Marcel Breuer to Dieter Rams, from Gerrit Rietveld to Arne Jacobsen and Harry Bertoia to Philippe Starck, to name but a few.
This A-Z of designers and styles provides a comprehensive cross-section of 20th century creativity that is as competent as it is opulent.
