The pendant lamp emits glare-free, downward-directed light. At the same time, it illuminates its own frame, creating a soft, pleasant glow from its center. The PH 5 was designed by Poul Henningsen in 1958 in response to the many changes that light bulb manufacturers were making to the shape and size of light bulbs at the time. Henningsen considered these changes to be completely pointless. The PH 5 was suitable for all types of light sources and bathed its surroundings in a pleasant light. This made the PH 5 so famous that it became known as “the PH lamp,” which still fits perfectly into modern interiors today. The PH 5 Mini is in no way inferior in this respect. The smaller version of the PH 5 was launched in 2017. It was designed based on Poul Henningsen's original design, with the upper shade having a diameter of approximately 30 cm. Henningsen pursued a special scientific approach to lighting and, based on his three-shade system from 1925, developed numerous lamps that give light a shape without causing glare. With the three-shade system based on the Lituus curve, he achieved uniform light emission, which made it possible to counteract glare and shadow casting.
