Alvar Aalto, the Finnish architect and designer, took a gentler path through modernism. Where the International Style favoured hard, smooth geometry, he worked with soft, curving and poetic forms, whether for a villa, a sauna or a lamp. His organic buildings joined an early concern for the environment with a strong sense of humanity and home.
This compact introduction belongs to TASCHEN’s Basic Architecture series. It is written by Louna Lahti, who worked for the Alvar Aalto Society for many years and has lectured and published widely on architecture and the visual arts. Peter Gössel edited the volume. English edition, hardcover, 96 pages.
