Above Pendant Lamp

Above is a pendant by the Danish designer Mads Odgård, introduced by Louis Poulsen in 2017. Odgård works by reduction and would rather remove than add, and the lamp follows that approach: a single conical shade with a clear, triangular silhouette.

The matt white-painted interior spreads a soft, even light downwards. At the top, an arched opening, which gives the lamp its name, reveals the cord and lets a little light escape upwards onto the arch. This keeps the shape legible whether the lamp is switched on or off.

The shade is spun aluminium in matt black or matt white, in three sizes: Ø 17.5, Ø 25 and Ø 40 cm. The two smaller sizes take an E27 bulb. Ø 40 comes with an E27 socket or with integrated dim-to-warm LED from 3000 to 1800 K, controlled by phase dimming or Bluetooth. Suited to kitchens, dining tables and hallways.
