Arne Jacobsen designed the Munkegaard light in 1955 for Munkegårdsskolen, a school in Søborg, Denmark. It was the first recessed fixture that also lit the ceiling, evening out the contrast between light and dark surfaces, and its discreet presence follows Jacobsen's architectural approach.
Set into the ceiling, the lamp reads as a disc hovering just below it, an effect created by the illuminated opening around the edge and the shade sitting slightly below the ceiling surface. The two-layer shade of matt white acrylic and tempered glass spreads the light evenly and gives the room an impression of extra height. The integrated 3000 K LED is dimmable via DALI or switch-dim.
Suited to hallways, entrances, kitchens and work areas. Available in Ø 26.5 and 46 cm, in high-lustre chrome, satin chrome or brushed brass. Installation needs a ceiling cut-out and a ceiling thickness of 1 to 50 mm.
