Japanese architect Kengo Kuma has placed sustainability at the centre of his work, translating local craftsmanship into a new, tactile architecture. His projects range from the Great (Bamboo) Wall house and the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo, built for the 2020 Summer Olympics, to the CAM Gulbenkian in Lisbon and other recent buildings.
Born in Yokohama in 1954, Kuma founded Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990 and teaches at the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Tokyo. This updated monograph covers his work from 1988 to today and is edited by Philip Jodidio. Published in TASCHEN’s 45th Edition series, hardcover, 512 pages, with text in German, French and English.
