Patera Oval belongs to the Patera family that Øivind Slaatto designed with Louis Poulsen in 2015 as a contemporary take on the crystal chandelier. Slaatto described the original as a kind of three-dimensional Sudoku: diamond-shaped cells arranged according to the Fibonacci sequence and braided by hand.
Instead of a sphere, the Oval is a flattened round form that reads as an ellipse from the side. Each cell is angled to catch the light and to hide the light source at viewing angles above 40°. A round opening underneath sends direct light onto the surface below, with a soft transition to the reflected light. A diffuser plate for the opening is included against glare.
At 29.1 cm high and Ø 50 cm, it was designed for rooms with low ceilings or limited headroom, and also works hung high or above a dining table. Available with an E27 socket or integrated LED in 2700 K or 3000 K with DALI control.
