Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the VL38 table lamp in the late 1930s for Radiohuset, the Danish Broadcasting House in Copenhagen, now home to the Royal Danish Academy of Music. It appeared in Louis Poulsen's catalogues in the mid-1940s, and the floor lamp carries the original design up to a height of 120 cm.
The curved aluminium shade directs light downwards and can be tilted to set where it falls, while its white-painted inside keeps the light soft. A brushed brass stem, left untreated so that it develops a patina, joins the shade to a round aluminium base. The white version was reissued in 2016, followed in 2017 by black, which gives the lamp a stronger outline.
The lamp has integrated 2700 K LED. A switch on the cord offers two light levels, and an optional timer turns it off after four or eight hours. Suited to living rooms and bedrooms or a place beside the desk.

Care
| Aluminium | Clean with a soft cloth, lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then dry. Avoid abrasive sponges and acidic or alkaline cleaners. Raw aluminium may darken slightly over time. |
|---|---|
| Brass | Untreated brass develops a natural patina. Dust with a dry cloth; to restore the shine use a brass polish. Lacquered brass only needs a soft, dry cloth. |
