In the mid-1980s Paulo Mendes da Rocha visited a spring factory in São Paulo and saw steel coils 25 cm wide and as thin as paper. He imagined a body lying on such a sheet as if floating above the ground. The PMR chaise longue is the result.
Two thin, flexible steel sheets run side by side with a gap between them, so the spine is free and the body rests on its muscles. A small round cushion supports the neck. Cross bars under the sheets allow three different reclining angles.
A rare piece by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect, made in small numbers. The finish is agreed with Objekto per order.
