Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc with a warm, golden tone. It is easy to machine and turn, which is why it has long been used for lamp fittings, candle holders and small hardware. Untreated brass reacts with air and touch and slowly darkens into a patina; lacquered brass keeps its shine longer.
