Broken Bench

Broken Bench is the second piece in Snarkitecture's Broken series for Gufram, designed in 2017 after Broken Mirror. Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen imagined it as the fragment missing from the mirror: an irregular slab that seems to have broken out of a concrete wall and been laid down as a seat.

The joke is the old Gufram one of soft and not soft. The slab is soft polyurethane, finished by hand with Guflac® until it has the look of cast concrete, yet it gives slightly when you sit on it. It rests on beams of a highly resistant plastic agglomerate, which add an industrial note. At 190 cm long and 43 cm high it suits a hallway or living room as well as a public interior. Each slab is finished by hand, so no two surfaces are exactly alike.

Two limited editions exist, Almost White and Almost Black. Hung above the bench, a Broken Mirror completes the scene of the broken wall.
