Bocca Sofa

Studio 65 designed Bocca in 1970, drawing on Salvador Dalí's 1935 portrait of Mae West. The sofa takes the form of a pair of lips, very slightly asymmetrical, and brought the imagery of Surrealism and Pop Art into the living room. It has been photographed by Richard Avedon, with Marisa Berenson, and by David LaChapelle.

This is the original version in red fabric, a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. A soft polyurethane body carries a removable fabric cover, 212 cm wide and 85 cm high. Each sofa is shaped and upholstered by hand, so small differences between pieces are part of the work.

Bocca belongs to the permanent collections of the Fondation Louis Vuitton and the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Design Museum in London. Later editions include Pink Lady in pink and Dark Lady in black with a chrome piercing. In bouclé wool and 24 colours the sofa is available as Bocca Unlimited, for example in Red 011; the 1:8 miniature is Guframini Bocca.
