Capitello Seat

Capitello is the capital of a classical column, enlarged and tipped on its side to become a lounge chair. Studio 65 designed it in 1971, taking the columns of the Erechtheion on the Athenian Acropolis as the model. What looks like carved marble is soft enough to sink into.

Gufram shapes the seat from soft polyurethane and finishes it by hand in Guflac® Ultra, in a white that recalls the Parthenon and with a surface that imitates worked stone. The coating makes Capitello suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It is produced as a limited edition of 500 pieces, and as every piece is finished by hand, slight differences are normal.

Capitello was shown in Pop Art Design at the Barbican Centre in London in 2013 and in Design Radical at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2017. Its companions from the same column are the Attica armchair and the Attica TL coffee table, and the Guframini Capitello reproduces it at 1:8 scale.
