Broken Mirror

Broken Mirror was the first piece Snarkitecture designed for Gufram, in 2017, and the first mirror Gufram had ever produced. The New York studio of artist Daniel Arsham and architect Alex Mustonen surrounds the glass with what looks like the jagged edge of a hole knocked through a wall, so the reflection reads less as a mirror than as a view into another room.

The frame is soft polyurethane. Gufram's craftsmen finish it by hand with Guflac®, building up a surface that looks like raw concrete but stays elastic to the touch. At 200 cm high and 100 cm wide it works as a full-length mirror and as a piece of wall architecture. Because the finish is applied by hand, the texture differs slightly from one mirror to the next.

The same frame exists in two limited editions, Almost White and Almost Black. The broken slab returns as the Broken Bench, and the mirror is also available at 1:8 scale as a Guframini.
