Broken Mirror Almost Black is the dark edition of Snarkitecture's mirror for Gufram: the broken wall around the glass is finished in a near-black tone, which turns the frame into a deep shadow and makes the reflection appear brighter by contrast.
Artist Daniel Arsham and architect Alex Mustonen designed the original Broken Mirror in 2017 as their first piece with Gufram. The mirror sits inside the jagged outline of a hole in a wall, so it looks like an opening rather than an object hung on it. The frame is soft polyurethane, finished by hand with Guflac®, which gives it the grain of masonry while it stays soft.
Almost Black followed in 2024 as a limited edition of 777 pieces. The hand finish means that no two frames are exactly alike. The light counterpart is Almost White, the original version is the Broken Mirror, and the dark Broken Bench Almost Black completes the pair. In miniature it exists as the 1:8 Guframini Broken Mirror Almost Black.
