Paulo Mendes da Rocha designed the Paulistano in 1957 for the Athletic Club of São Paulo. The frame is a single steel bar, bent into one continuous line; the cover simply hangs in it. This version uses a heavy cotton canvas woven in the Vosges, in ecru or blue grey.
The frame comes in polished stainless steel, the original phosphated carbon steel, or powder-coated white or black. The cover slips off the frame and can be exchanged for leather or another fabric at any time.
The Paulistano has been part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 2007. Also available with a leather cover, as an outdoor version and in steel mesh.

Care
| Cotton | Wash according to the care label, ideally inside out and with similar colours. Avoid tumble drying at high heat to prevent shrinking. |
|---|---|
| Steel | Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately. Powder-coated surfaces tolerate a mild detergent; avoid abrasive cleaners. Raw steel can develop a patina and is best kept dry. |
