PRATONE® is a unique chair designed in 1971 by Giorgio Ceretti, Pietro Derossi, and Riccardo Rosso, crafted from soft polyurethane. Its surreal form and playful design blur the lines between natural and artificial, creating a relaxing oasis through its giant, grass-like stems. As a significant piece of radical Italian design, PRATONE® challenges traditional furniture norms with its handcrafted, Guflac®-finished blades, each taking five weeks to complete. The chair’s distinct PRATONE® mark underscores its individuality.
In 1972, PRATONE® gained recognition as an avant-garde design when featured on the cover of the prestigious “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” catalog at MoMA, New York. It was celebrated as one of the hundred greatest design masterpieces, now housed in the Vitra Design Museum and displayed in major museums worldwide, including MUDE in Lisbon and the Musée des Beaux Arts in Montreal.
SUPERPRATONE expands the armchair into a 5.30-meter inflatable sculpture, showcased as an interactive installation in Milan’s Piazza San Fedele in 2021, celebrating its 50th anniversary. PRATONE® stands as a symbol of innovation, irony, and boundary-pushing design, captivating audiences with its timeless appeal.
