Softcrete is Ross Lovegrove's answer to the hardness of concrete. Designed for Gufram in 2007, the modular sofa looks as if it had been cast on a building site, yet it is soft to sit on. Lovegrove described the idea in three words, “soft as concrete”, and the collection plays that paradox out in simple cubic blocks.
The Angular Module is the corner element. It turns a straight run of seats into an L or closes a sofa at the end, and it defines how a Softcrete layout wraps around a room. Like the other elements it is made of polyurethane and finished with Guflac® Ultra, which makes it suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It measures 70 cm on each side and weighs 15 kg. The finish involves handwork, so small differences between modules are part of the piece.
Add Central Modules to extend the sofa, and the Softcrete Cube as a low table.
